Where is the villisca house located

There are bibles everywhere in that house. Few things that you should know though. There is one extention cord to charge things up that is found in the room downstairs where the Stillinger girls were found. The barn outback is where the bathroom is, no shower, and there is an upstairs with a tv to play videos of the house and experiences, that is if you want to sit up there at night.

Really creepy. No smoking in the house, no water, or other electricity access, and no sleeping on the furniture. Wheelchair access to the main floor only. I would advise to bring air matresses or cots because that floor is hard.

I wonder why no one wanted to sleep upstairs??? TimeTraveler 1 contribution. After that, the tour guide gave a super lame, short, and very rushed intro that was definitely not worth the price of admission. The entire experience is definitely not worth it. I recommend saving your money, watch documentaries instead and do not support this ornary old woman who has zero customer service skills or appreciation for customers who drive long distances to see this place. The only thing that got murdered in this place was my hard earned cash.

We tried to take the tour today, but the office attendant refused to allow our "almost 12 year old" to go on the tour, told us a one-hour wait before anyone could do the tour, masks are required, generally was disagreeable and didn't want to do a tour. We were a family of 9. We left without doing the tour. The Villisca ax murder house was a curious stop on our way through Iowa. It is now billed as a "haunted house," but the spirits in residence were noticeably absent during our tour.

VegasBaby Hull contributions. Saw the axe house on Ghost Adventures. We were in the area during our RV Road Trip so decided to visit. The lady who took us in to the house and told us the history of the murders was very interesting.

We learned a lot from her. We then were left to explore on our own. You could spend as long as you like in the house.

Most of the house didn't feel 'dark' or spooky at all. We had been warned by someone to be careful but we felt totally at ease. The only room that felt really bad to us was the downstairs bedroom.

That's were the two little girls, friends of the family, had been murdered. I thought that was the saddest part of the story. The guide told us where all the graves were so we went to visit them.

We got talking to the grounds man there and he won't go in the axe house as his wife has had paranormal experiences there! Glad we made the journey to visit. Daniel B Cedar Rapids contributions. I have been here three times now. Each time I learn more about the house, the murders that took place and how it has affected the house, town and Iowa from now on. Its quite a drive from Eastern Iowa. Took me about three hours and thirty minutes just to get there. One way. With one stop along the way.

You now go directly to the house itself for the tour instead of downtown to the museum. We arrived to this small town Iowa house. There is a slanted parking ramp there. And off street parking is everywhere. You register; pay the admission fee and the "tour" starts. The tour guide has been there for years. A nice bearded fellow that lives nearby. He has been on every concealable cable channel about travel or science fiction to you name it.

This place has been visited by every known and unknown psychic in the world. You have to believe in this place. And he wanted to see it first-hand. He had heard that I had been there before and asked me to take him there.

It is now a self-guided tour. You start at the house. Walk into the kitchen area. You see how life was like in , in rural Iowa. You then proceed to the living room. There you see pictures of family that was slain. You see an upright piano and chairs and kids' balls on the floor.

You go to a nearby bedroom off this room. That is where two of the kids stayed. These two were family friends that just happened to stay there that fateful night. Upstairs, you find the parents bedroom and then the other kids' bedroom. Between these two room is an attic door that also doubled as the kids' playroom. You then can see the cellar if you choose to.

Many people have claimed to have seen ghosts or the like here. Many have eye witness accounts of how they have felt or been touched by these spirits. People come from all over Iowa, the nation and the world to visit this place.

Being there three times myself, I have not seen or felt or witnessed these things. But that is just my opinion. The day I was most recently there, I saw a child's playball slowly moving by itself. Almost as if someone or something was slowly and carefully moving it. It wasn't a dramatic push or kick across the floor either; it was more like the spirit was trying to push it.

The tour concludes out at the city grave yard where the entire family is buried. This is a solemn place and it should be noted that other people are buried here as well and it should be a place to reflect and be a place of quiet reflection. The murders were never solved. This is still an unsolved mystery all these years.

Rumors abound as to who it was or why. Come and see for yourself. This small town Iowa of only people would love to have you and appreciate your business, your thoughts and prayers. Its all about how you feel when you come here. They also offer overnight tours at the house. Rules are in place for that and according to their calendar they are booked solid this year.

The day I visited it cost me ten bucks for admission. Kids and senior prices varies. In my opinion, this place deserves a look. Keep in mind that I have visited and been in this house close to a dozen times since , when I started covering the first paranormal investigations of the house as a reporter for the Valley News Today newspaper in nearby Shenandoah. Listen to the episode here. When Darwin and Martha Linn bought the three-bedroom farmhouse at East 2nd Street, in Villisca, Iowa, in , they planned to turn it into a historical museum.

Almost dollhouse-like in its simple layout, the home has the ubiquitous look of countless other cozy farmhouses across the country. The Linns wanted to revive the home and bring it back to its former glory a status that came to an abrupt halt in The walls had more to say though, and the Linns were ready to listen I for one, haven't been able to get a good night's sleep ever since I heard the true story behind it—so reader, beware.

Soon after the Linns bought the home, they got an influx of requests from some unexpected inquirers: paranormal investigators who wished to visit the house to commune with the ghosts of the deceased victims who once lived there.

Moore 43 and his wife Sarah Moore 39 ; their four children, Herman 11 , Katherine 10 , Arthur 7 , and Paul 5 ; and their two young guests, Ina 8 and Lena Stillinger 12 —were murdered in the house in a grisly case that rattled the small but bustling town Some of the most unsettling details about the crime scene, aside from the sheer brutality and tragedy of it, include a hidden attic, a door locked from the inside, and linens covering every window and mirror in the house.

And while every suspect and lead eventually turned into a dead end, the story of the Villisca House didn't actually stop there: The residual hauntings, whether understood as the actual spirits of the victims or the symbolic trauma of an unsolved tragedy, go on and on and on.

The house change hands a few times over the past years, and the reported ghost encounters just keep accumulating. Things like disembodied giggles and screams, unexplained movements, a strange fog moving from room to room when the train passes through the town at the time of the murders, and strange behavior from visitors that indicate the possibility of possessions are just some of the activities that indicate a paranormal presence at the Villisca Axe Murder House.

So while what happened there in makes it a terrifying place to be on its own, ghosts or no ghosts, it definitely continues to earn its title as one of America's most haunted houses. Accommodations are spare—in fact, it's recommended that guests pack their own sleeping bag not that they'll be getting much sleep. When we spoke to Martha on the phone, she informed us that she simply hands the guests the keys when they arrive, and then leaves them alone for the night.

But that's the real key: They probably won't be alone, if it really is as haunted as it's rumored to be. As for Martha herself, she doesn't like to talk about her own ghost sightings in the house, as to not color the experience of the guests.

She did, however, share this comment with us when we asked her who she thinks the ghosts are: "I feel like there's something there If indeed there are spirits, you have to realize that six of them are children Curious to learn all the details of the Villisca Axe Murder House and why it's one of the most haunted places in the world?
