The real reason Broly hates Goku and so desperately wants to kill him is because Broly had a vision of Goku killing him. Yes, I'm fully aware that this sounds stupid, but just think about it and look at the evidence. Consider how Broly reacts when he sees Goku. Yes, there's anger there, but there's also fear. Especially when he sees Goku before he breaks through his restraints. There's true legitimate terror on his face.
No anger, just plain fear. Why would he be scared of Goku if he was only angry at him because Goku cried when they were babies?
It's because he knew Goku was there to kill him. Let me explain. First, let's look at why Broly would want to kill Goku. Someone who cried next to you as a baby is not something that you're going to remember. But being a baby and having a vision of someone killing you, that is something that's going to obsessively stick with you over the years.
It not only gives Broly a legitimate reason to want Goku dead, it also explains his obsession for it. You're not going to remember another baby that cried for a few hours, but knowing that someone was destined to kill you, that will stay with you.
It also explains why Broly was fearful of Goku when he saw him. It would also explain why he remembered the vision, because the vision granted him a clairvoyance and understanding that a baby wouldn't normally be able to process or understand. Now, let's look at Broly's defeat. After Goku absorbed everyone's energy, when he delivered the finishing blow to Broly, we got a flashback of the two of them as babies.
That was the movie telling us that, in the past, this was when Broly had the vision of the future, and adult Broly was realizing that this was his death that he foresaw, which is why he was having that flashback. Obviously though, Broly survived, everyone else thought he was dead until Second Coming. Based on the vision Broly saw as a baby, he probably thought the vision did show his death.
This explains why he wasn't as hostile in the second movie as he was in the first. Still hostile, but not as hostile, and still seeking to kill Goku because he hated him, but no longer so desperate because he now knew his vision didn't show his death.
But then why wasn't Broly scared during his fight with Goku? He seemed quite sure he was going to win. Well, think about how Broly was prior to the fight. His power was being suppressed, so he couldn't access his full strength. When he saw Goku on the second day, he realized that this was the day his vision had showed him "dying", which was why he was so afraid, and with his power suppressed, he knew it would happen. In his desperation to prevent the vision from happening, he broke through his restraints and gained access to his true power.

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise including movies, spin-offs, etc. Post by mecha » Fri Jan 29, pm There has been an ongoing debate as to why Broly might hate Goku. Most fans say it doesn't make any sense at all and it would make more sense for him to hate Vegeta like Paragus does. Broly hating Goku because of his crying has always been something fans have facepalmed at, but then I got to thinking.
Now, stay with me. Maybe Broly links Goku's crying to getting stabbed and because he's mentally unstable, sees Goku as the one to blame and get retaliation on especially since the ones who killed him are no longer alive and Goku is probably the only survivor who was in that incubator room? This theory is most likely head canon and nothing intended by Toei, but I felt more contempt with it than what I had previously thought. But there's more.
I watched the Broly movie again and found something that fascinated me. And notice how in the second clip, Broly seems physically paralyzed and mentally affected by Goku's punch. This causes him to remember the day when he was stabbed and left to die. Because Goku is the physical embodiment of his trauma and by killing Goku, he might finally be able to get rid of it once and for all.
Another thing is that maybe this kind of justifies from a poetic point of view only why Goku's punch defeated Broly, because it calls back to his possible trauma. Perhaps Toei actually intended this when crafting Broly's backstory? Or I'm just looking too much into the villain many fans hate the most? Nonetheless, it's still an interesting theory when you think about it.
Maybe it will get a few people to hate Broly a little less? Also, I'm ready for comments telling me I'm late to uncovering this theory and I understand. Re: Is this the reason why Broly hates Goku? Post by rereboy » Fri Jan 29, pm Like you said that theory is old and doesn't make sense, imo. In my opinion, it was clear from the way they told the story that Broly was moved by and was basically a slave of his primal saiyan instincts, especially while in full LSSJ mode.
That's why he reacts to Goku that way. While it took other Super Saiyans a minimum of 10 years to reach their forms, Goten was able to hit that benchmark by age seven. Destiny 2. Could Gohan beat Vegeta? Is Gohan stronger than Broly? Why is Gohan so weak in super?
